Chemical industry leader saves 10% with advanced HVAC procurement

Advanced HVAC System: Implementation for the Chemical Industry

Our client, a prestigious leader in the Indian chemical industry with a rich seven-decade legacy, is headquartered in Gujarat. Renowned globally for its excellence in dyes, intermediates, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals, they sought our expertise for a cutting-edge cleanroom with an advanced HVAC system for their Gujarat plant.

What are cleanrooms?

advanced HVAC cleanroom

Cleanrooms offer a controlled environment to minimise the presence of pollutants or contaminants like dust, airborne particles, microbes, and vapour. They achieve this through features such as air filtration systems, positive air pressure, and strict protocols for personnel and equipment.

Cleanrooms are classified based on the quantity and size of particles per cubic metre of air. Parameters like temperature, humidity, and airflow are maintained within the room to ensure the desired level of cleanliness. Industries like pharmaceuticals, electronics, biotechnology, and research use cleanrooms.

How does a cleanroom work?

  • Air filtration: HEPA filters help to filter out air from the air that enters the area.
  • Positive air pressure: A higher internal air pressure in the cleanroom prevents external air from entering.
  • Strict protocol: Cleanrooms implement a protocol to minimise contamination. Personnel wear special clothing, gloves, and shoe covers before entering. They also receive extensive training to prevent contamination.

Why are they important?

Cleanrooms are vital for several reasons:

  • Improved product quality: Cleanrooms minimise contamination, leading to higher-quality products with fewer defects.
  • Reduced waste: By preventing contamination, cleanrooms help reduce production waste.
  • Regulatory compliance: Cleanrooms help companies meet strict regulations in industries like pharmaceuticals.

Challenges Faced

There were several challenges that Venwniz had to overcome:

  • Find a qualified vendor:  While technical expertise was important, Venwniz also needed a vendor with a proven track record. They looked for vendors who completed similar projects for clients with similar profiles.
  • Manufacture AHU HVAC Units: The client specifically required a vendor capable of manufacturing Air Handling Units (AHU) for the HVAC system.
  • Location/Service: The vendor should be able to provide after-sales service at the plant.

Vendor  attributes for HVAC system

  • Turnover: The vendor needed to have a turnover over  15 Cr. to execute the project of this scale.
  • Location: They needed to have their manufacturing facility near Mumbai.
  • Service cost and time: They needed to provide quick quality service at minimal costs.

Solution

Venwiz tackled the challenges with a multi-step approach.

  • Identifying gaps: We started by examining the client’s existing vendor pool to identify gaps in experience or qualifications.
  • In-depth research: We did not limit ourselves to our vendor pool but conducted market research on potential vendors, gathering information on their products offered, and their experience and industries served.
  • Trust building:  Venwiz arranged for the client to visit the vendor’s manufacturing facility to build trust and transparency between both parties.
  • Vendor introduction: We introduced the shortlisted vendors to the client’s technical team to foster collaboration and communication.
  • Cost estimation: We helped the vendor prepare the initial cost estimation for the project and prepare the quotation in line with the client’s expectations.
  • Client expectation: We helped set client expectations by providing realistic timelines and appraising them of potential bottlenecks.
  • Vendor selection: Our detailed discussion with the client’s team on the shortlisted vendors helped them select the most suitable vendor for the project.

Impact

The client saved 8 to 10% from the initial budgeted costs.
